Samsung Biologics acquires PolyPeptide Group to secure scarce manufacturing capacity for GLP-1 drugs.
23 Jul 2026

Samsung Biologics has agreed to acquire the Swiss peptide manufacturer PolyPeptide Group in an all-cash tender offer valuing the company at roughly 1.46 billion Swiss francs, or about $1.8 billion, marking South Korea's largest biopharmaceutical acquisition to date. The deal targets peptide manufacturing capacity, one of the tightest supply constraints behind the continued expansion of GLP-1 based obesity therapies worldwide.
Under the terms, Samsung Biologics will pay 44.31 Swiss francs per share, a premium of roughly 40 percent over PolyPeptide's undisturbed share price. PolyPeptide's largest shareholder, holding just over 55 percent of outstanding shares, has irrevocably committed to the offer, though completion still requires a two-thirds minimum acceptance threshold from remaining shareholders. The tender is expected to open toward the end of August, with a targeted year-end close.
PolyPeptide operates as a contract manufacturer specializing in peptide production, the class of molecule that underpins semaglutide, tirzepatide, and the broader wave of obesity treatments now advancing through late-stage development. The company reported first-half 2026 revenue of roughly $271 million, up more than 41 percent year over year, reflecting surging demand as branded drugmakers and their generic and biosimilar challengers compete for limited production slots.
Analysts said peptide manufacturing capacity cannot be built quickly, since specialized synthesis equipment and regulatory qualification both require lengthy lead times. By acquiring scaled capacity rather than building it internally, Samsung Biologics gains a foothold across European, American, and Indian manufacturing sites. The results could shape how quickly the broader obesity therapeutics market can scale to meet patient demand.
